An Experience-MCF 2013
By: Chris Englund – IOGKF Canada
IOGKF Canada member, Chirs Englund attended his first ever major IOGKF event when he participated in MCF 2013 in Niagara falls, Canada…
Please allow me the
honour of introducing myself. I’m Chris Englund from
I, and my Dojo became members of the IOGKF in December 2012. Our dojo practiced Goju prior to our joining the IOGKF, but never before had we been able to participate in an event as awesome as MCF.
I had the privilege of
attending my first ever gasshuku in March at Ohana Dojo in
Michigan, USA. It was an incredible experience, and I made new
friends from the
I’m sure most out there reading this have attended a major gasshuku, be it national or international.
Was I a bit nervous going into an event such as this? Absolutely!! Let me say this to the karateka who have yet to enjoy this awesome training experience…Those feelings were quickly put to rest when I began to feel the energy of the event from the rest of the karateka. It was like a massive wave of positive energy cascaded over me when I arrived to sign in. This was the most powerful energy transfer experience I have ever had, spiritually, mentally, and physically…. up until that time. The most powerful one occurred 10 minutes later when I was on the floor training with Nakamura Sensei and Higaonna Sensei 10 feet from me!! Surrounded by senseis , and karateka from around the world my first MCF experience had begun. I didn’t have time to gaze around in awe (although I did try) we kicked off with a session led by Higaonna Sensei. None of my pre-existing physical ailments were of concern as he had me doing things I only once dreamed of being able to do. My body and spirit was that of a 20 yr old again. It was like running a marathon at full speed!!! For the rest of the MCF every day all day felt this way. The level of knowledge gained from an experience such as this is only equaled by its ability to uplift you spiritually.
The MCF 2012 was like one gigantic “family” all coming together for four days to share in their common passion for karate, and exchange knowledge freely with one another. To have so many talented martial artists and karateka in the same place at the same time for the same reason is, in a word, powerful!!!
I would have to say “family” is another great word to describe this experience.
I will be forever
grateful to the people in the IOGKF who have welcomed me as part
of their family, and make this organization and events like MCF
I would like to thank
