Mini - Gasshuku Sensei Bakkies Laubscher (20, 21, 22 April 2012)

It was already the 9th time that Sensei Bakkies came to Belgium to pass through his knowledge of Goju Ryu Karate-do. We are always very pleased that Sensei wants to come over to Belgium to teach us. Sensei Bakkies is known for his physical, mental and technical training. He owns the gift of pushing everybody to their limits. During these three days he showed us how important basic training is. Day by day the exercises became more difficult. Sensei taught us how you can train hard by just practising your basic karate. By practising basic karate your kata and bunkai will improve. The more basic you train, the more effective your techniques will become. Sensei emphasized the power of recall. By repeating numerous times the same techniques you will become better at them and you will understand the underlying meaning of these techniques. Sensei combined different basic techniques which we had to do with full speed and power. Though it were basic techniques, we still had to think about them, because we had to do them in a different way we were used to. During this Gasshuku Sensei showed us again how important basic training is. By mastering your basic techniques, you will lift your karate to a higher level.

As always it was a pleasure to be taught by a master like Sensei Bakkies. To see him move with such a pace and accuracy inspires you to keep training. I would like to thank Sensei Bakkies for such an inspiring and instructive weekend. I would also like to thank Sensei Patrick and his wife for organising this annual Gasshuku. We are all looking forward to next year.
