2012 Okinawan World Budosai Official Guide

MONDAY JULY 9, 2012:

Registration:

The event begins on Monday July 9th with the collection of welcome packages and event check in for pre-registered members and initial event registration for late comers to the Budosai. There will be two sessions for registration which will be held at the Okinawan prefectural Budokan. The times for these sessions are listed below:

Session 1:     09:00hrs – 12:00hrs

Session 2:     13:00hrs – 15:00hrs

It is preferred by IOGKF International and the administrative office that all attendees pre-register prior to event. We also encourage you to take advantage of the special early bird registration special that is available until April 30th, 2012. Standard registration is available until May 31st, 2012 but there is an increase in the fee price.

Organising every persons registration packages take a great deal of work from the Budosai staff.

 So during registration, please be patient and follow signs to your countries designated service area so Budosai staff can process your check in and registration as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you have any proof of payment documents from your registration process, please bring them with you.

Welcome Party:

This event will be held at Kariyushi Urban Hotel Naha. Directions can be found on the map and instructions below:

How to get there:

Monorail: If you decided to take the monorail, get off at Miebashi station and follow the map above. It is about a 10 minute walk on foot from the station.

Taxi: If you provide the taxi driver with the below address they should be able to transport you to hotel, distance will of course vary depending on your location.

This event is scheduled to start at 18:00hrs and conclude at 21:00hrs.

TUESDAY JULY 10, 2012

Please note: No video or photography of any kind is permitted at any sessions.

Senior Training:

For this day senior training will be for those holding the rank of Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) and above. This session will run for 8:00am – 9:00am and will be instructed by Higaonna Morio Sensei. Please do not be late as training will begin at 8am sharp.

All grades training:

This will again be taken by Higaonna Sensei and will begin with a prompt start at 09:00hrs. Please ensure you have your Budosai registration pass with you as you enter the main hall of the Budokan.

Group Training Sessions:

There will be three group training sessions running on the below times:

Group session one:             10 am – 11am

Group session two:              11am – 12 noon

Group session three:           12 noon – 1 pm

Black Belt Grading:

This event will be held at the Okinawan Prefectural Budokan. The IOGKF headquarter grading panel (Higaonna Sensei, Bakkies Sensei & Terauchi Sensei) will be assessing all those sitting for Dan grades.

No spectators, video or photography of any kind will be permitted at this event. To be eligible to sit for a Dan grading you must have the required time span and attendance record as stated in the IOGKF Dan Grading rule book and you must be submitted by your country chief instructor.

This event promptly starts at 14:00hrs – please do not be late.

Executive Committee Meeting:

This event is a private dinner for those on the IOGKF executive committee.

WEDNESDAY JULY 12, 2012:

Senior Training:

This is a session for 4th Dan and above only, with a prompt 8:00am start. This session will be instructed by Higaonna Sensei.

All Grades Training:

This will be held in the main arena of the Budokan with a prompt 9:00am start. Please be on time and please have your Budosai registration pass as you enter the hall.

Group Training Sessions:

There will be three group training sessions running on the below times:

Group session one:             10 am – 11am

Group session two:              11am – 12 noon

Group session three:           12 noon – 1 pm

Event Group Photo:

Immediately following the final group session of the day there will be an event group photo in the main arena of the Budokan. Please remain in your Gi and proceed to the main arena. Please follow the photographer’s instructions. This should only take a few minutes and will be available for purchase later in the week.

Chief Instructors Meeting & Dinner:

This is a private meeting and dinner for IOGKF country chief instructors, kambukai members and country representatives only.

THURSDAY JULY 12, 2012:

Senior Training:

This is a session for 5th Dan and above only which will be taken by Higaonna Sensei. Again there is a prompt 8:00am start. No spectators please.

All Grades Training:

This will be held in the main arena of the Budokan with a prompt 9:00am start. Please be on time and please have your Budosai registration pass as you enter the hall.

Group Training Sessions:

There will be three group training sessions running on the below times:

Group session one:             10 am – 11am

Group session two:              11am – 12 noon

Group session three:           12 noon – 1 pm

Member Country Photographs:

These photographs will be taken in the main arena of the Budokan. Please organise your countries group in the arena and follow the Budosai staff and photographers instructions. Countries will be called forward on account of numbers and organisation. There will be no private pictures with Higaonna Sensei. Your member country photos will also be available to purchase later in the week.

History Lecture by: Master Shuichi Aragaki:

This will be held at the Budokan from 17:00hrs – 19:00hrs. This is a very special event where attendees will be able to listen and learn from Sensei Shuichi Aragaki, Goju-ryu 10th Dan and student of Goju-ryu founder, Miyagi Chojun Sensei.

Aragaki Sensei’s lectures are famous for not only his fantastic and interesting story telling, but also for the ‘pearls of wisdom’ he shares in regards to self defence and life in general. Aragaki Sensei is a very special man that all IOGKF members will enjoy listening too. There will be full English translations by Nakamura Sensei. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with one of Miyagi Chojun Sensei’s last remaining students.

FRIDAY JULY 13th, 2012

Senior Training:

This session will be for 6th Dan and above only. Again with a prompt start at 8:00am and with no spectators. This session will be conducted by Higaonna Sensei.

All Grades Training:

This will again be taken by Higaonna Sensei and will begin with a prompt start at 09:00hrs. Please ensure you have your Budosai registration pass with you as you enter the main hall of the Budokan.

Group Training Sessions:

There will be three group training sessions running on the below times:

Group session one:             10 am – 11am

Group session two:              11am – 12 noon

Group session three:           12 noon – 1 pm

Masters Demonstration Selection:

For those with the approval of their country chief instructor or at the invitation of Higaonna Sensei, will need to perform what they plan to demonstrate at the Masters Demonstration. The selecting panel will comprise of Higaonna Sensei, Bakkies Sensei and Terauchi Sensei. Please be patient and courteous as other’s are performing in front of the masters.

SATURDAY JULY 14th, 2012:

Senior Training:

This is a session for IOGKF International’s most senior members, with a rank of 7th Dan and above. Training starts promptly at 8am and there is to be no spectators.

All Grades Training:

This will be held in the main arena of the Budokan with a prompt 9:00am start. Please be on time and please have your Budosai registration pass as you enter the hall.

Group Training Sessions:

There will be three group training sessions running on the below times:

Group session one:             10 am – 11am

Group session two:              11am – 12 noon

Group session three:           12 noon – 1 pm

History Lecture by a special guest:

This event will run from 17:00hrs – 19:00hrs. The special guest for this history lecture will be announced at the Budosai.

SUNDAY JULY 15, 2012:

Masters Demonstration:

Beginning at 14:00hrs and running until 16:00hrs, witness not only the IOGKF’s best and brightest but also some of Okinawa’s most talented martial artists performing at their very best. Held in the Budokan Main arena, there will be demonstrations by Sensei Morio Higaonna and his most senior students.

The Opening ceremony of the Masters Demonstration will feature a real treat for all members. The Budokan main area will play host to the Nishihara High School Marching band – the team who have won the high school division of the world marching band championships! Budosai Sayonara Party:

This event will be held at the Pacific Hotel. The address for the hotel is:

This is the best information to provide to Taxi drivers along with the name of the hotel.

In true IOGKF tradition, each country will be given the opportunity to do a short performance on stage to share a piece of their culture with IOGKF members from around the world! We will also be playing host to a very special performance from Hanayakara – Okinawa’s leading professional music performers who travel across Japan to do shows. Other Information:

Please keep in mind that like all events, some items are subject to change without notice, however we suggest taking a copy of this guide and the ‘Anni’s Okinawa Survival Guide’ (included in this edition of the newsletter’ to Okinawa with you for the Budosai.

We also recommend that you keep the address of your accommodation with you at all times. Should you become lost you will be able to call down a taxi, provide them with the address and be returned to your hotel.

July is also summer in Okinawa, with temperatures classified as hot (29 – 38 Degrees Celsius) and high humidity ranges. We recommend carrying water with you at all times during the day ensure you protect yourself from the sun with sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen lotion.
