IOGKF South American Gasshuku in Venezuela with Higaonna Sensei
By: Sensei Gustavo Tata – IOGKF Argentina
Sensei Gustavo Tata covers the highlights of the 2011 South American Gasshuku with Higaonna Sensei. Held under the banner of Venezuela and Sudo Sensei, training was held in places such as beautiful parks and the countries own Honbu Dojo…
I summarize briefly some of the incredible and informative sessions which took place at the recent meeting / seminar South American Goju-Ryu Karate-Do conducted and organized in Caracas, Venezuela by IOGKF of this country.
It was organized by Sudo Sensei and his team headed by Sensei
Jose Contreras, who was constantly attentive to us and with other
international offices ... (Sensei: Zé Mario from Brazil, Kokubo
Peru, Chile Rivera, Zapata Colombia, Martinez de Panama), there
were about 300 participants, and logistics of the event was well,
I think we all felt very comfortable, making it practical for all
foreign countries, as the event ran in one area of influence.
Higaonna Sensei, as expected, in all his glory was pushing us more and he seemed to be tireless and with his tremendous ability he continued giving great development and evolution to our style by working on every detail. He spent time putting more emphasis on the inner work every Karate-ka should improve (breathing, concentration, and health).
Sensei told us, a high level will be achieved only by sweating a lot, and beyond to do personal work, you must contact our Sensei's Dojo in each, to then take the true essence of the bodily different techniques, because the transmission was and will be directed, far beyond the technology that in many cases can help. But these details are seen only on contact, and it is there in the dojo and the Gasshukus, where we push the limits, and to overcome it with the idea of beating yourself and be strong inside and out ...
Every time I make contact with Higaonna Sensei, a real Karate Master, who always finds something more than this endless, attractive, and also complex way of Goju-Ryu ... not without saying that his techniques always remain superb, and his ever-increasing enthusiasm is beyond his biological age, but because he looks to be a very young Sensei and this is vital, and as if time slowed to pass him…
Training at the Honbu-Dojo in Venezuela lasted a few days (Dans and brown belts) and concentrated on Kata and Bunkai. Another day in the afternoon we trained in a beautiful park / garden, where we develop a great session of Kihon (basic techniques) with a class of about 200 Karate-ka. Sensei managed to create a climate of concentration as we were in a closed temple ... excellent work!
The other days we did in the Vertical sports gym in Caracas, with classes divided into Dans and kyu grades, here we trained both physically and technically, also covering Kata and their details in the style of Higaonna Sensei (thousands times!) and so we arrived on the last day where each country made a show to bring closure to this great festive meeting of the IOGKF-South American countries.
Surely many of you will join me in these humble but true insights
and concepts of what was Higaonna Sensei and this great gathering
of traditional karate ...
The next meetings are: Argentina 2012 with Nakamura Sensei, then Peru 2013, Chile will continue to 2014, Argentina 2015, Colombia 2016, Panama 2017, all with the presence of Higaonna Sensei ...
Thank you very much to those who accompanied me from IOGKF, Argentina, South American countries that together we are achieving growth in IOGKF-South America, a project a few years ago it seemed difficult for those who were planning it, but now became a reality, thanks to us all ... go ahead .. Moichi-Do!
