Official Welcome from Sensei Brain McGhee-  New Zealand Kambukai Chairman:

IOGKF New Zealand invites all IOGKF members from around the world to attend the 2011 Oceania Gasshuku in Wellington, New Zealand with special guest IOGKF World Chief Instructor Higaonna Morio Sensei.  This event, held February 11-13 at the Victoria University Recreation Centre, has a programme for all grades and ages including sessions specifically for children and a variety of senior instructors from New Zealand and Australia in addition to sessions with Higaonna Sensei.

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand and very beautiful surrounded by the harbour and hills.  It is a major cultural centre and home of the national museum – Te Papa, as well as being one of the best places in New Zealand for fine dining and a good cup of coffee.  Other attractions include the Wellington Zoo, the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary and the Parliament Buildings.

Not far from Wellington are the fantastic vineyards in the Wairarapa – a one hour drive from the city, or in Marlborough in the South Island of New Zealand – a very pleasant 3 hour ferry trip away.  The Abel Tasman National Park offers great walking tracks and a fantastic place for kayaking.  For those seeking more of an adrenaline rush, Taupo in the central North Island or Queenstown in the central South island offer bungy jumping and jetboat rides and there is plenty of volcanic activity to marvel at in Rotorua.

New Zealand’s summer is from December to February and February is definitely when Wellington is at its best so we hope you will take this opportunity to visit our beautiful city, and explore our country.
