IOGKF Australia – Dojo Pee-Wee Board Breaking Night
By: David Lambert – IOGKF International Editor & Dojo Head Instructor
Our International Editor took the time to organise a board breaking night for a group of his Australian Pee-wee students. The event was a great success and attracted a large group of onlookers. All the students demonstrated board breaking and Sensei Lambert did a hand conditioning demonstration which was well received by all...
On September 23rd, 2010, I held a Pee-wee board breaking night for those of my young pee-wee students who wanted to try their hand, or in this case foot, at breaking a board.
The enthusiasm from the 10 or so young students who decided they wanted to attempt this was fantastic. They all really focused hard and did their best to demonstrate 3 basic things: Respect for others, humility for themselves and to treat others how they would like to be treated.
I’m pleased to report that every one of the under 10 year old students were able to break their board and the smiles on their faces showed that they were pleased with their efforts.
After the board breaking was finished, and as requested, I demonstrated traditional hand conditioning on what I affectionately refer to my students as ‘my pet rock’. The students really enjoyed this also and were clapping along with every strike I performed. The atmosphere as always among these students was electric.
If you are a Dojo instructor looking for a motivator for your Pee-wee students or just looking to reward them for all their hard training, I would recommend running a board breaking night. It was something a bit different for my young students to aim for and I was really taken back by the 30 odd parents and family members who came to support them at the event.
My thanks to those Pee-wee students who were very brave in front of their audience and also to everyone who helped run the event and produce the below video.
