It was with great sadness with which I heard the news that Anichi Miyagi Sensei had passed away.  He was, and will always remain, one of the great treasures of the world of karate-do. Everybody from IOGKF Denmark would like to extend their condolences to Anichi Miyagi's family, and, of course, also to Higoanna Sensei. We hope Sensei, that the loss of your Sensei will not be too great to bear and that you can find solace and comfort knowing how many generations, past, present and future Anichi Miyagi Sensei has, and continues to inspire.

The news that Master Anichi Miyagi had passed away was a shock and a very sad day for IOGKF and all the people that love and respect him not only as a Master but also as a mentor and a friend, in the time that I had the privilege to be associated with Master Miyagi he was such a kind and warm gentle person, he would welcome you into his home and offer you tea and talk about his training and times with Bushi Chojun Miyagi.

It will be hard to find such a person with the knowledge and wisdom that he portrayed, I can only be thankful that I was one of the fortunate individuals that had spent sometime with such an inspiration to so many people.

He will be sadly missed.

I would like to express my deepest condolence to the family of An’ichi Miyagi Sensei.

An’ichi Miyagi Sensei was the chosen student of Chojun Miyagi Sensei.  The essence of Goju-Ryu survived because of him.

He lived a very simple life following the teaching of his teacher.  In 2007, Anichi Sensei announced officially that Morio Higaonna Sensei is
a successor of Goju-Ryu after him

Last year during the World Budosai when I visited Anichi Sensei at his home, Anichi Sensei told me that he often woke up in the middle of the night with visions of Miyagi Chojun Sensei.
I believe he has now joined with Chojun Sensei and is watching us from heaven.

I would like to express my deepest appreciation to An’ichi Sensei for everything he has done for us all and Goju-Ryu, and I promise my firm commitment to carry his legacy to our next generation.

Please rest in peace.

I ask you to accept our sincere condolences from France.

Today is a very sad day.

The Spanish Goju-Ryu members and me are saddened by the lost of Miyagi Anichi Sensei, one of the karate’s main master  in the world. Sensei Anichi achieved the pinnacle of success in his professional life and whose work will live on for many years to come.

As a friend, he was a mentor and truly wonderful spirit and inspiration to me. I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a monumental figure. But I am also consoled by the fact that he lived and use every minute of this life for the most outstanding, decent and noble purposes.

He was a worldwide figure and a man of immeasurable source of knowledge. With his passing the Karate has lost a great scholar and a moral compass for all of us.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.

Rest in Peace.

With deep sorrow we’ve received the news that  Miyagi An’ichi Sensei had passed away.  I have had the honor and privilege to meet Sensei Miyagi personally, and taken direct contact in several and different occasions and Gasshukus.  I have shared wonderful and unforgettable moments at his house in Okinawa with his family, and in each opportunity he has transmitted me his advice and knowledge. Several of our Argentina’s members have had the luck to know him, and have been able to appreciate his karate, his greatness, and humility.  I think that we all must learn of that … Today it is a sad day for me and the IOGKF family, but I know that Sensei An´ichi, who was a very optimistic person, would not want that we lose heart with these facts; surely he’s saying to us from some place, that we must continue training with great energy, guarding with dignity, all principles and ideals of this noble style, that until yesterday, was guarded by him… Let us be worthy guards of his legacy.

Please, send our condolences to his family.

Victor Popa - IOGKF Romania

I am so very sad to hear the news of the passing of An`ichi Miyagi Sensei.
I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to his wife and all his family.

An'ichi Sensei lived such a wonderful life and he shared it all with us to inspire and teach.

From stories of his life as a boy who, like so many others, suffered great personal loss amidst the terror of WWII, to his time as a dedicated student of Bushi Miyagi Chojun  we can only imagine at how intense and difficult some of these things must have been and the passion and resilience of spirit required.  Sensei  took all of these things he had worked so hard for and faithfully passed them on to his own student, Higaonna Sensei, ensuring that we could all share in the true spirit and legacy of this wonderful art, no matter where in the world we came from.

An'ichi Sensei was also a very kind and gentle man. Sensei would often fondly recall and share with us not just his time training with Bushi Miyagi, but also the stories of his time adventuring on the high seas as a young man, travelling the world in an era when Okinawa wasn't on most maps, his passport was useless, and the art of Karate was almost unknown.
How amazing his journey of life and the impact he has had on us all.

An`ichi Sensei was a living example of very real humility and inspirational teachings.
For all of his kindness and selflessness, we will forever be grateful.

I hope he is with his teacher now and we can make them happy by continuing to train on the path they have lighted for us.

Anni Moynihan

I was deepy rocked when I received the news today of Anichi Sensei's passing. My heart sank deep into my chest and I felt great sadness. The loss of such a kind, humble and caring Master is such a great loss not just to the IOGKF, but to Karate in general.

I believe we all owe Miyagi Anichi Sensei a debt of gratitude, for if it had not been for him, many of us wouldn't be here. He was the only one to learn all the Kata from Chojun Sensei, he wouldn't stray from the traditional path - not matter who fell and most of all, he moulded the amazing Higaonna Sensei we have today.

Last time I saw Anichi Sensei I was really moved by how humble and simple he lived his life. Anichi Sensei has this amazing presence about him, but it is not one of proudness, but of absolute humility and harmony. From looking at Anichi Sensei it is easy to see what a great example Higaonna Sensei had in a Master. I too am committed to never letting his legacy fade.

Higaonna Sensei told me, that we train for our whole life, then, when we pass, we come back as a spirit and keep training.

On the behalf of IOGKF Australia and my family, my deepest thoughts and sympathy's go to the Miyagi family, Higaonna Sensei and to the World in general. I feel a better Karate-ka for having known Anichi Sensei.

This is indeed extremely sad news. Lynne and I have very fond
memories of Miyagi An'ichi Sensei, particularly from the 2004 Budosai.
We were deeply impressed with his graciousness in patiently standing
with everyone who wanted their picture taken with him. And I mean
everyone! We didn't think he was ever going to get out of there to go
home! And his warm, friendly nature was exemplified by him stopping
to speak with us, on a very personable level, when we bowed to him as
he left the Budokan. He could have just bowed and continued on his
way and we wouldn't have thought twice about it, but he took the time
to warmly welcome us to Okinawa and thank us for coming to train. A
very classy individual. He will be deeply missed. Please pass along
our sincerest condolences to his family.

Higaonna Sensei,

I just wanted to say that I am sorry that your sensei passed away.  I am happy that he showed you all that he knew of Goju-Ryu so you could keep this martial art alive.  I will pray for you and Anichi Sensei's family.  Take great comfort in this time and know that even though we might be separated from those we love temporarily, we will again be reunited.

Sincerely,

The only thing in this world we do not know is when we’re passing away and how, however it seems that there is always an invisible touch that make that moment very emotive and transcendental, especially in those who have been an inspiration for us.

No one dies unless those who were near him or her forget his teachings like a human-being and not only in the professional part of our life, and that is why it will be impossible Sensei Anichi Miyagi to be considered died, because all his teachings will remind in our spirits due to all his thoughts and teachings have arrived to us among Sensei Higaonna, so that a part of Sensei Miyagi´s spirit will be always with us.

Death comes when we don’t understand that what we call with that name is a form to pass away and find our pure self and those who are equally prepared, and that is what surely has happened to Sensei Anichi Miyagi, he found the essence of every thing, Tao.

I’ll always remember him.

Antonio Pagan (IOGKF Spain)

Through these lines I want to give expression to my admiration for Sensei Anichi Miyagi, a man that was not only an important karate figure in the world, but also an exemplary person.

I didn’t have the pleasure of met him, but I know about his virtues through my Sensei Luis Nunes and through the biography I have red.

My condolences to his family and friends, and tell them that Sensei Anichi Miyagi will remain in our memory as a model of karateka and person.

Pedro Rentero (IOGKF Spain)

Dear Sensei Morio Higaonna and the family of Sensei An’ichi Miyagi,

I am writing on behalf of the members of the IOGKF España of the University of Murcia (SENSEI LUIS NUNES) to convey our condolences with regards to the passing of Sensei An’ichi Miyagi.

We were sorry to hear of the loss of such a monumental figure and we will always hold him in high esteem. He was a great role model for both his devotion to karate and his attitude towards life. He was a living legend and those who had the honour of knowing him will continue to think of him in this manner for years to come.

He lived his life with decency, nobility and strove to achieve excelence. He was an international enciky and a source of immeasurable knowledge. And in him karate has lost one of its greatest masters.

Our deepest sympathy,

I Trained with the IOGKF in the late 80’s and and opened a IOGKF Dojo in the 90’s for a while before entering the Technology field. Though I no longer officially train at a Dojo I continue to practice the martial arts that I learned from the IOGKF. The IOGKF traditional philosophy, the spirit of working hard daily, being respectful and humble stay with me every day in all avenues of my life. I had the honor of meeting An’ichi Miyagi Sensei in California in 1989 during the first Miyagi Chojun festival. He marked me as very humble and represented the spirit of fudoshin to me. He will be greatly missed and I will honor his life by living the values of traditional karate as passed down by him and Sensei Higaonna.

With great respect and sadness,

Emil Donatello III
